Factual statements by Greg Moore the builder: Below statement of facts and 100+ color photos of M2-60 from Build to Launch Feb 2026: Summer of 2012 Dockside San Diego: a fresh water hose submerged a 60-ft. Mikelson Luxury Fishing Yacht. It was determined later that all four of the boats bilge pump float switches had their tops removed and were missing. The floats would not raise to activate pump. One pump exceeds dock water pressure and flow. A few brokers suspected an insurance job. Greg Moore, a local yacht builder with a yacht building background and yacht repair facility located in Otay Mesa bought it knowing hull was still sweet. Tom Neilson and Don Beaumont's boatyard flushed it and pickled engines but, Greg knew everything, but the hull was totaled. Greg's years of boat building understood that the hull was still in perfect condition because he previously worked with the same (closed cell foam) core made by USA's Divinycell and knew Mikelson's laminate schedule from a previous K&C local yacht build. Greg knew they also used the best American made vinyl ester resin in their laminates. The best hulls available by todays standards. Greg used these same components inside and outside the cores of many Knight and Carver Custom yachts. It's a type of foam and layup that won’t absorb water or have any negative effect. If a hull had been submerged much longer, some water (technically) can weep between foam and glass but would drain out when thru hulls were stripped out. Later, when all the thru hulls were removed and a bow thruster built in, Greg was right! The hull was completely dry. Its everything else on and inside the hull that took Gregs team 11+ years to strip and build back better. Even the smallest screws were tossed out. It took 2 years to strip it bare of all its wires, wood, plumbing, doors, windows etc. The very best 58.8ft hull Mikelson ever built and the last hull before they went to aft engine V drive design and (more of a so called) west coast hull with 3 staterooms, and alot higher up off the water. They added costly stabilization to compensate. Their west coast designs can take a beating but not like this M2-60s east coast hull design. This hull is sleeker, Full 2.5 ft lower to the water at bow and 2.5 ft lower at stern cockpit for fishing. Low to the water, more stable yet still slippery turns with a fast tunnel hull. Its for comfort fishing without stabilization or for living aboard. Many features for tournament fishing are there. Greg says "I knew I could make it better than new. No way was I going to let that perfect boat go to waste. I knew I could make it more like a new Mikelson, Viking, Bayless or Carolina (but without teak decking burning your feet)." This vessel has the 45 years of Mikelson's San Diego pedigree." Now perfected by 45 years of Greg Moore's hands-on engineering and building, its built to 2026 standards and far beyond original Oem and we can't wait to test to see if it outperforms a brand new 2026 Mikelson. Fast forward: The $3.7 million dollars and the 12 years of hard very skilled labor and the facility burden needed to strip it to the core and substantially build it back to better wasn't expected. NO, not at all. But we stayed on the course until it was built like a real yacht. Regardless of cost, the boat had to be pretty and safe. Rebuilding a vessel from hull up versus making a yacht hull from scratch and building it up isn't for the faint at heart and is far harder than almost all marine professionals think unless they have actually done it to completed operations. Many fail or go bankrupt. There’re no slips for 50, 60, 70 foot hulls, boats must be refit to be sustainable. Marinas hate older boats so unless your willing to go as far as we did and more than likely loose a lot of money, don't do it. This project is a marquee example of how to do an entire project the right way and how to make it better than new. The new users, marinas, insurance, coast guard and surveyors all must love and accept it. There is no pretending. More importantly, the new buyer will go far offshore on our work. On Greg Moore's work. This was not a facelift, this was a total rebirth and reincarnation. Everyone at the boat show agreed it was a new boat. We were quite proud of the publics acceptance and comments. Everything new, zero hours. The builder is working as the MIC aka Greg Moore Custom Yachts aka must warrant all the work and monitor recalls just like any other NMMA new yacht manufacture. In fact, we offer the future buyer a 15 yr. warranty on the hull, 2 yrs on everything else and 4 full factory new engine warranties. Greg Moore is a 68 yr old local yacht builder and engineer who owns an inland building yard called Boat Yard San Diego and started in 1976 as a navy Technician here in Pt Loma before becoming a hands-on degreed engineer and yacht builder while operating his own small inland boatyard for last 18 years.
Photo Progress: (takes time to upload) *starting from beginning in 2012 to the 2025 splash in 100 full color photos. Greg Moore certifies this info to be a true and an accurate report of the yachts rebuilding. *not complete some photos are still being collected.
